Severity of asthma is different from person to person. This is because each person reacts differently to different irritants and has their own set of allergies or triggers. The asthma self-management plan is a little card with step-by-step instructions on how to deal with asthma attacks as well as the frequency and dosage of taking controller medications. It has guidelines on what to do if the child gets an asthma attack. Listed in the plan are medications to be taken and how many times a day they are to be taken. If the asthma worsens or if current medications do not help, there may be instructions in the asthma management plan to increase dosage. Over time, the people around the asthmatic child start recognizing when to start the treatment early or when to call the doctor for help.
